Recent high-profile sporting event in the spotlight Vislink‘s Premium quality,
Low latency mobile video connectivity
Mt. Olive, NJ, Aug. 08, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Vislink (Nasdaq: VISL), a global technology leader in capturing, delivering and managing high-quality live video and associated data in the media and entertainment, law enforcement and defense markets, is pleased to announce its 5G wireless camera technology in one innovative 5G test for private networks taking place during the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Vislink is participating in the trial with BT Media and Broadcast and the BBC testing the standalone private 5G network for broadcasting the Commonwealth Games. This is the first time that cutting-edge technology has been used anywhere in Europe for an event of this magnitude. Vislink is making its reliable, premium quality, low-latency mobile video connectivity technology available for use during the testing period.
By using Vislink Mobile Viewpoint UltraLink-Air 5G cellular encoders to enable wireless camera connection, camera operators can roam freely within network range during the event, rather than relying on broadcast cameras that communicate solely via radio frequency (RF) signals with outside broadcast that rely on proprietary equipment. This enables the delivery of smooth, uninterrupted video feeds and the ability to connect directly to IP-based content delivery networks utilizing a 5G internet connection.
Mickey Miller, CEO of Vislink said: “We are grateful for our participation in the Commonwealth Games 5G Network Study. This is another in a series of marquee sporting events demonstrating the benefits of our public and private 5G wireless camera solutions. This includes the ability to leverage an unrivaled, low-latency network that enables a robust and reliable delivery platform for video capture while providing viewers with an immersive experience that puts them right in the middle of the action.”
He continued, “Additionally, by providing a 5G camera solution, the Vislink system enables tighter integration into an all-IP remote production environment, simplifying video networks, reducing costs and creating streamlined, flexible processes for broadcast professionals.”
The Commonwealth Games network test follows an event in May that showcased Vislink innovations at the Gallagher Premiership rugby match between Saracens and Northampton Saints at the StoneX Stadium in London. At the event, Vislink proudly supported a BT-led project to highlight the potential of 5G in broadcast, focused on connecting matchday cameras to a self-contained private 5G network.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games will be held in Birmingham, England from July 28th to August 8th. Over 5,000 athletes from 72 nations will compete in 19 different sports as England hosts the event for the third time in its history.
