√ a-ha’s new studio album “True North” will be released on October 21st

In the official full trailer, we hear a-ha’s Magne Furuholmen explain, “’True North’ is a letter from our homeland to the world. It was kind of inspiring to think of this as a performance within a film that would somehow have a narrative connected to what these songs are about.”

Sony Music Entertainment Premium Content and Trafalgar Releasing on Thursday released the official full trailer for a-ha’s upcoming film True North, the accompaniment to their new studio album of the same title. True North will be released in select theaters worldwide on Thursday September 15th, followed by the album on Friday October 21st. This film will also include a special behind-the-scenes look, exclusive to cinemas. Check out the official full trailer here.

According to a press release: “The original idea for ‘True North’ was for the Norwegian trio, consisting of Morten Harket, Paul Waaktaar-Savoy and Magne Furuholmen, to have their first session in the wondrous studio location just 90km above the Arctic Circle recorded filming it. Eventually the project expanded into a production and the talented Norwegian orchestra Arctic Philharmonic joined them. What has emerged from those sessions is a great album and film to match, which describes the band’s vision of a collective connection to the environment.”

“‘True North’ is a letter from a-ha, from the Arctic Circle, a poem from the far north of Norway,” said Furuholmen.

The press release continues: “Through recurring vignettes, the multi-dimensional ‘True North’ film follows this narrative arc through actors portraying life in the north and documents the band recording music over two days in Bodø, Norway. This is a unique release from a-ha that embodies the spirit of their new songs, with longtime a-ha collaborator Stian Andersen at the helm as director.”

He said, “It was a privilege to direct the film ‘True North.’

Since their worldwide breakthrough with “Take On Me” in 1985, a-ha have continuously adapted and evolved. With their eleventh studio album and the documentation of its creation, a-ha have now entered a new phase.

“First we had the idea of recording a studio session live,” says Waaktaar-Savoy. “Then to film a studio session. It developed more into a production with the Norwegian orchestra Arctic Philharmonic, with whom we worked together.”

The press release states: “’True North’ is the band at their most insightful, personal and touching. Never before has the spirit of a-ha been so exposed.”

True North is produced by Aparent in association with Sony Music Germany, Bodø2024 and Aker Horizons and distributed by Sony Music Entertainment’s Premium Content Division. The film will be distributed theatrically worldwide by Trafalgar Releasing.

The film True North hits select theaters worldwide on September 15th via Trafalgar Releasing. It will be screened on location at the North Park Theater, 1428 Hertel Ave., Buffalo.
