Ree Drummond makes a simple teriyaki shrimp and pineapple dish that she cooks in foil “packets.” The Pioneer Woman Star’s Easy Cooking Hack steams the ingredients to perfection in this delicious twist on traditional stir-fries.
Ree Drummond makes teriyaki shrimp and pineapple packets
Drummond offered her simple dish to a fan who asked for a seafood recipe during an episode of The Pioneer Woman. “I have just the thing,” she said. “Teriyaki shrimp and pineapple parcels. It’s basically a really tasty stir fry in individual foil packs.”
Drummond began cooking quick-cooking rice, letting it cool, then placing it in a bowl. She added red pepper slices, canned pineapple wedges, grated ginger, grated garlic, frozen peas, teriyaki sauce, salt and pepper and mixed it all together.
“These packets are really convenient because you can put them together earlier in the day and put them in the fridge,” explained Drummond. “And then when everyone’s ready for dinner, you just pop them in the oven and before you know it you’ll have the packages ready to go.”
The Food Network host divided the mixture into six pieces of foil and topped them with peeled, deveined shrimp. “Shrimp are great for quick dinners because it doesn’t take any time at all to fully cook them,” she explained.
Drummond sprinkled toasted sesame oil on top and gathered the foil into a packet, leaving some space inside “so it’s like a little tent.” She placed the packets on a sheet pan and cooked them in a 450-degree Fahrenheit oven for 15 minutes.
She took the packets out of the oven, opened them up and sprinkled them with cilantro, spring onions and a squeeze of lime juice. “I love how everyone is having dinner, but it doesn’t get cleaned up a lot,” she said.

Drummond makes a shrimp pasta packet recipe
The Food Network star also uses the foil wrapping technique for a shrimp pasta dish.
“Well, cooking is fun. Yummy, delicious, yummy… and fun, fun, fun for a large group,” Drummond wrote in a 2009 blog post on The Pioneer Woman website. “The point here is that you just throw some sauce ingredients in a pan, let it cook for a few minutes, and then toss raw shrimp and (partially cooked) pasta on top.”
The Food Network host continued: “Then you wrap all the goodness in a big foil packet and finish cooking in the oven. It turns into a big beautiful package full of goodies. The seafood cooks in the foil, which means all the juices and flavors stay in it…it’s so absolutely delicious.”
