A new golf entertainment complex is being built in South Indy

At Central Indiana’s newest attraction, players can serve up, dine or just settle down to some of the area’s best rock, country, R&B and pop music.

They can virtually play a round at famous golf courses like Bethpage Black, challenge their friends in a golf version of 21, or unleash their own Happy Gilmore in the Long Drive competition.

Pub grub, cold beers and live music enhance an evening or an afternoon with friends.

Back Nine Golf & Entertainment combines golf, games and glitz into an entertainment experience unmatched in the area. The new center, which opened fully to the public on July 29, is a 58,500-square-foot facility stretched around 75 air-conditioned bays over a three-story golf course.

In addition, the new stadium-like space includes a bandstand for 550 people, an outdoor beer garden, a restaurant and bar, and much more.

“In developing Back 9, we wanted to provide an element of real entertainment in Back 9 that went beyond just golf. Whether you are a golfer, a player, a child or a parent, Back 9 embodies the idea of providing entertainment and fun for all,” said Patrick Dugan, the company’s chief operations officer.

Located southwest of downtown Indianapolis on the banks of the White River, approximately 7 miles north of Greenwood, the new Back 9 facility has helped revitalize an area that lay neglected for many years.

Company officials refer to it as the city’s “fourth stadium,” and its massive brick facade and mesh that stretches along the towers that surround the site are imposing.

“The development of Back 9 near the downtown riverfront was a deliberate revitalization effort to connect this area with residents of central Indiana and beyond,” said Dugan. “We believe that Back 9 is the type of venue our community hasn’t built since Lucas Oil Stadium and marks the beginning of a major transformation throughout this Indianapolis area.”

Golf is the focus of the new complex. Officials have teamed up with Flite Golf and Entertainment, a Texas-based company that specializes in creating a range of golf-based games for people of all skill levels.

People can hit balls and practice different shots through the driving range function. To increase the challenge, earn points by hitting different targets in the Bullseye game or see whose ball hit is the strongest in the Long Drive competition.

State-of-the-art golf simulations allow people to play virtual versions of famous golf courses like Whistling Straits or Huzhou Hot Springs.

All of this comes with a breathtaking view of the downtown Indy skyline.

“From the seasoned golfer to the gamer, Back 9 offers an experience that locals and visitors alike will enjoy,” said Zach Tharp, the company’s director of sales and marketing. “Whereas other facilities are typically located in suburbs, near malls and freeways, Back 9 uniquely focuses on the location’s proximity to downtown.”

But while golf may be the heart of Back 9, the resort offers a variety of other activities and offerings for all types of interests.

The Bandstand was created to host weekly music performances with a focus on local groups. People can grab a drink and spread out on the downstairs seating or take a peek from upstairs on the outdoor balcony.

At restaurants and bars throughout Back 9, people can get everything from smash burgers to Neapolitan-style pizza to a flavorful tuna sushi poke with Indiana classic Hoosier Sugar Cream Pie for dessert. People can get cold beer from one of 12 taps, mixed drinks, wine, and other beverages throughout the property. The Best Friends Coffee and Spirits Kiosk offers hot drinks, smoothies and other surprises.
